- Entry Name: Astoria Formation, Beverly Beach State Park, Oregon by Scott Johnson
Newport Member of Miocene Astoria Formation Shallow marine sandstone and mudstone deposited about 15 million years ago and loaded with bivalve fossils. The strange block pattern in the sandstone on the right is caused by erosion along a pre-existing network of cracks.
