Select a user’s gigapans…the default sort is most popular.
Mouse over Most Recent and look at the link – it is linked to most popular
Click on most recent, and you get most populer
click on most recent on the second page and you get most popular.

This line of html appears to be the issue

Yeah, something wrong there. I have found that you have to hit a user’s “most recent” tab two times before it actually goes to that page, when you access it from the tab on the member’s home/profile page.
