Can I control the number of photographs I want to shoot with the GigaPan? |

You can’t program the number of pictures you want to take with the imager, but you can set the parameters of the image you want to take by setting the upper left and lower right corner of the field of view. Reason you can’t control this is due to the EPIC Series using 30% overlap to capture the scene so it automatically determines how many shots needed based on that. This also allows the Stitch software to capture enough of the image in order to stitch the images together. |

So, how does it know the field of view for the particular lens I put on the camera? |

Hi Bruce, The Gigapan will help you determine that during the ‘camera setup’, it has you move the camera so that the horizon is at the top of your viewfinder, press enter, then move it until the horizon is at the bottom of your viewfinder (or screen). This allows the Gigapan unit to calculate the field of view and will set up the stops accordingly. You can then write this info down for a given lens focal length and input it in again later (no easy way to just put the field of view in, still have to go through setup) So, with your help, it does it automagically.
