Junquilal 40

The volcanoes were under cloud in the morning - but other than a couple of mistings, there was no rain while sampling. A calm, cloudy day - but beautiful. The traps were in the ground from 8:30-1:45. While there was a notable absence of any Pachycondyla, there was no shortage of several kinds of Pheidole. The most noticeable was a black kind that had super vigorous workers, but although large, very shy soldiers. There was also an army ant column streaming through the site; though they never found a bait station. Before and after standardised sampling, I continued to search for Pseudomyrmex flavicornis colonies. There were several on the road into Junquillal. A beautiful view for the last full day of sampling on this trip. On the way home in the afternoon, and the volcanoes are still in the cloud. It did rain at Santa Rosa about an hour later.
