On a trip to China in November 2011, we visited Beijing (Temple of Heaven Park, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Yuanming Yuan and Panjiayuan Market). We also hiked 5 miles along the Great Wall at Jinshanling, about 90 minutes northeast of Beijing.
Although not in the "vicinity" of Beijing --- it's a 1 1/2 hour flight or 11 hour train ride to the west of there) --- I'm including Xi'an, the ancient capital of China where the first Emperor Qin Shi Huang was buried along with his famous retinue of terra cotta soldiers.
So, I searched for other gigapan members who'd passed the same way, found pictures of the same subjects and added them to the gallery. The panoramas in this gallery are the result.

Soviet Military Maps from the USSR
Produced 1960's onwards. Most of the maps in this collection are 1:200,000 scale (although other scales exist.)
Most likely the original source for this rather large collection of maps is from the stocks kept on board freight train wagons sitting in Riga captured by the Latvians during the breakup of the Soviet Union.
