This is more of a proof of concept than anything. I just put my camera on continuous trigger at 2 frames per second, and then let the train go by me. I think there were a couple of times where the camera didn't keep up with the train, and there is certainly some weird stitching, but I was really just curious how long of a picture I could make. I had to scale it down a bit since the TIFF files I get from Hugin don't upload directly to GigaPan, and GIMP has some silly limitation that any dimension can be max 2^18, or 262144.
Pictures takenfreehand from my car at a level crossing with a Panasonic DMC-ZS10 and stitched together with Hugin on Ubuntu 10.04.
This is a restitch of my first attempt, since that one looked so bad. I'm sure there are still issues, but hopefully this is good enough that I can let it go for now.
