vegetable oil. In this sense, it is closely
related to soybean and corn in US because both are
vastly planted and can be used to extract oil. The
stalk material is probably for animal feed or fuel
for cooking

poles wrapped with stalk material. Are the stalks
dried for animal feed and the flower/seed portion
used for human consumption? I can't think of a
corresponding crop in the US but not my expertise
either.
