    Other than the axis of the syncline being the topographic high, you would never guess the underlying geological structure from looking at the slope. Also, as David Rogers often repeats, the weathered zone is highly undulating. It is not apparent from the topology. In this case, you could probably piece it together from a line of 50'-center borings.

    The overall topology has a classic William Morris Davis 'slope in equilibrium' sine wave type shape.
