The Nearby Nature gigablitz fell on an interesting work week for me this June. The Environmental Education Center was running a nature study camp in the mountains of West Virginia, so this was the office for the week. The image was captured in Furnow Experimental Forest (nrs.fs.fed.us/ef/locations/wv/fernow
/), which has been integral in investigating techniques in managing forest regeneration for optimal timber harvest.
In the creek we found a spectacular diversity of vertebrates and invertebrates, showing that even in a highly altered forest this watershed is very healthy.
