- Description

This is the back of the Main Mound at Huaricanga, a Late Archaic (3,000-1,800 B.C.) site in the Fortaleza Valley, Peru. This platform mound construction is the largest in the Norte Chico. This side of the monument would've greated people who entered the valley from the coast. There are several impressive mounded areas that would've been large structures and a grand court, or atrium, on top of the platform mound (it looks like a dip). The discoloration on the right side is the well-worn path of goats who are frequently herded in the area.
