Description

Because of the very nice weather, I wanted to set up behind Duncan Hall and take a panorama of the Engineering Quad.

Note: the panorama that I had hoped to take on 10/18/2008 has now been taken and can be seen at:
www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=12141.
Since it was Saturday morning, I was only expecting a few sleepy students to wander by. Was I totally surprised by what I saw when I drove up! This pano was taken about 10AM and all the excitement was to begin at 11 and an Astronaut was to speak at 1PM to about 1200 expected high-school students.

Shades of Harry Potter... as you can see, I caught Cyrus looking over at Cyrus :)

A week ago, was when I had taken a partial Gigapan of the Engineering Quad, but stopped due to intermittent clouds and if you look at this private Gigapan closely, you will get a glimpse of what I really want to do: www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?aut h=f1d3c7ab9c51c27b4ab6eeb3222b3398Can you find the Rice Bear? :)

Rice University had so much going on this Saturday morning... here we see the Sally Ride Science Festival before it really all happened and then in the Houston Chronicle, the following article appears talking about elementary, middle and high school students who are refugees being shown a brighter future at Rice: www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front /6066304.html Will open in
a new tab or windowWe all take our freedom for granted, and trying to imagine what this kids feel like after what they have been through and then being treated like royalty... its pretty amazing.
