Description

Qori Kalis is an outlet glacier of Quelccaya Ice Cap in the Cordillera Vilcanota of southern Peru. Recession of Qori Kalis is well documented since 1963, primarily by Henry Brecher at Ohio State University. This GigaPan illustrates the moraine-dammed lake in July 2012. This lake began forming in the late 1980s as the ice margin retreated, and by about 2010 the terminus was more-or-less out of the lake, which today covers ~34 hectares and has a maximal depth of ~60 meters. The images comprising this GigaPan were underexposed by about 3 f-stops. With new adjustment features in GigaPan Stitch.Efx, the effort was salvaged.
