* Like all hotels in Liberty City, was designed by Giuseppe Sommaruga in 1911 and built within two years. The complex (which initially included a cable car line, a theater, clay pigeon shooting and various other entertainment) was irreparably mutilated in the Second World War bombs aimed at Aermacchi, which then stood nearby, in April 1944, destroyed the Kursaal and the cable car, leaving intact only the upper station of the funicular railway (now used as a gym) and foundations. The hotel was fortunately spared.
Thanks to its central position and prudent management, the hotel did not suffer the same fate as the Grand Hotel Campo dei Fiori: the crisis of the '50s and '60s, it became the benchmark for tourism in the city.
