The source of the "Best of the Best" water in the whole country! Yes, The Table Rock reservoir is one of the sources of drinking water for Greenville, SC. This reservoir is located along the Blue Ridge Front surrounded by mountains, protected wilderness area, and state parks. Table Rock state, located south of the Table Rock was built in 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and is one of the most popular destination for people from the southeastern United States. There are many trails within the park and the table rock summit trail is about 3.6 miles from the trail head to the summit overlook point. Moderately strenuous trail. One can see Caesars Head overlook, Bald Rock Preserve, Paris Mountain, Glassy Mountain, and many other landmarks from here.
Geologically, this area is dominated by Gneiss (a metamorphic rock). A very long time ago (100's of millions of years), this area used to be in the middle of the ocean as an island arc chain (just like modern day Japan) and collided onto the then North American continent, followed later (about 300 million years ago) by collision of North America with Eurasian/African continents resulting in building of the Appalachian mountains. About 180 million years ago, these continents split and moved apart again resulting in the formation of present day Atlantic Ocean.
So, the the quality of the water we have here has been the result of millions of years of geologic processes!
