Hays, Kansas - Fall 2008 by Ron Schott

First GigaPan with a brand new camera (Canon SX10 IS) and a brand new GigaPan Beta Robot. The Canon SX10 IS is the successor to the Canon S5 IS I've been using from almost the beginning of my GigaPanning career. It's primary advantage is a greater zoom (20x for the SX10 vs 12x for the S5 or 18x for the S5 with the 1.5x tele extender) and more megapixels (10Mp for the SX10 vs 8Mp for the S50. The disadvantages are that the SX10 is not nearly as versatile a camera as the S5 - no adapter lenses, which certainly rules out the neat macroGigaPan work I've been doing recently. Nevertheless, for landscapes and long distance shots the SX10 ought to be a marginal improvement over the S5. Although I shot this image in rapidly diminishing light you can compare it with my earlier shots from this spot with the S5:
