Cerro Fitzroy was named after Robert Fitzroy, the captain of the Beagle, because of his explorations in this part of the world.
It is also known as Cerro Chaltén which means "smoking mountain" in the Tehuelche language.
The panorama viewer in the Gigapan stitcher shows the lower half of this panorama much less dark than we see here.
Note: the ISO was accidentally set to 200 for this set of photos.
