Description

This is the view of the redwood forests of western Mendocino County, California. The photo was taken on Sunday, February 17, 2013 from Highway 20 west of Willits, and above the tiny town of Comptche. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, this area was alive with redwood lumber mills. With most the old growth redwood now gone, the lumber business is a shadow of its former size. But some of the tallest trees in the world escaped the woodsman's axe, and are located deep in these forests.
