Description

Paradise Inn at Mt Rainier National Park in Washington State.

Winter is nearly over, and crews have begun the gargantuan task of digging Paradise Inn out from under the snow.

The Paradise Inn, built in 1916 and designated as one of the "Great Lodges of the West" provides 121 guest rooms, the Paradise Inn Dining Room, Tatoosh Café, and gift shop filled with souvenirs, apparel, memorable gifts, prints from local photographers, and pottery crafted by local artisans.

In 1919, Han Fraehnke, a German carpenter, added much of the decorative woodwork that he designed and built himself. A skilled craftsman, Han also built the lodge’s rustic piano and the 14 foot grandfather clock.
