Located in the Salinas Valley, Greenfield is known for its row crops including broccoli. The town used to host an annual Broccoli Festival, but that seems to have disappeared. With a population of about 16,000, the town is a quiet agricultural spot along the busy Highway 101 freeway that passes along its eastern edge.
Greenfield, Soledad, and nearby Carmel Valley are the setting of several of John Steinbeck's novels. Of Mice and Men, the Wayward Bus, and East of Eden are all set in this part of California.
