Description

Fort Scammon is a Civil War fort in Charleston WV. Used by the south in 1862 and fortified by the north in 1863, it was used to guard the junction of the Elk and Kanawha rivers.

I grew up about a half mile away, and have fond memories of playing there as a kid.

There are several USGS benchmarks here, for those into Geocaching. I stood on one of them while taking the photos for this panorama (it's a small stone plinth, clearly visible in the other Fort Scammon panorama).
