Cedar River below the S. Cedar Road Bridge. The Cedar River drains a series of wetlands, primarily cedar swamps, flowing into the south end of Lake Leelanau, on the Leelanau Peninsula of Michigan.

The submerged plants in the center foreground are yellow water-lilies (Nuphar lutea), the flower buds are just beginning to form. The light tan, upright plants - some with cottony heads heads are last years cat-tails (Typha latifolia). Along the edge of the river you can see the bright red stems of red osier dogwood (Cornus sericea). The little white cotony blobs floating on the water are wind-blown seeds from the local aspens (Populus sp.) aka cotton woods - hence the name.
