YEAR OF FESTIVITY, YEAR OF LIGHT One can only marvel at the beauty revealed through the magic of this broad-view image. What a feast for the eyes as well as, for those familiar with the banks along the River Saône in the city of Mâcon (France), a feast for the soul, as displayed by this brightly luminous, panoramic evening cityscape, bravely defying the persistent gray gloom of winter days. Night-time as heralded by the poet Charles Baudelaire expresses its mysterious charm « Bringing peace to some, cares to others » in the giant wheel of the outdoor festival, in benevolent or oppressive solitude. You should try various enlargements of the full-scale image and its separate parts, in order to indulge yourself in its many subtle details. Warmest Wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2009 ! --- Text by Ed Steeves, American living in Mâcon and friend of artist photographer Michel Horiot
