Description

View of Newberry Caldera from southeastern rim at Paulina Peak. The big obsidian flow in the lower left erupted about 1,400 years ago. Everything from obsidian to basalt can be found here (with plenty of welded tuff).
The caldera sits atop a broad shield volcano that began forming about 500,000 years ago.
