Description

The Haliköy mine (Izmir, Turkey) produced 2000 tons of mercury by roasting or calcining at 600 oC rocks excavated from the underground mine that contained the mercury sulphide mineral cinnabar. The evaporated mercury was condensed in flasks, the sulfur oxide gasses were let off into the atmosphere and the burnt-out rock (calcines) were discarded, are seen in the panorama and now have to be rehabilitated.
