Examining volcanic rocks deposited in an alluvial fan. Salar Grande (a large salt deposit) is visible in the distance on the left side of the pan.

    It's a great analog - in fact, the reason we were there was to study some of the geologic processes as potentially similar to those on Mars. Minus the rock hammering geologists, the salt miners, and the pick-up trucks, of course :)
