Description

Sulphide ore in a polished section. 61 images collected using a Zeiss microscope, Zeiss Epiplan HD 4x objective, Zeiss kpl 10x eypiece for projection and a Canon 1100D camera. Collecting the images by tethering the camera to a PC using the EOS utility capture software makes life a lot easier since my home-built rig isn't even close to being parfocal.

The images area is 8mm x 5mm and the illumination is plane polarised light. Minerals present include pyrite, marcasite, pyrrhotite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite. There's one or two grains of bornite and maybe some others (galena or arsenopyrite ?).

At this magnification the whole section would require 1800 images.
