Description

The Eel River flows north from Mendocino County to the ocean near Cannibal Island, north of Ferndale, California. This photo was taken on the South Fork of the Eel River near Weott, California. It meanders for over 40 miles through some of the tallest and oldest redwood trees on Earth. This is a quiet river – except in the rainy season when it becomes sometimes violent. The altitude of this photo is only 120 feet (≈40 m.).
