- Description
-
Piles of overburden stripped to reveal the ore at the Ajo, Arizona open pit copper mine dominate the horizon south of town. They also offer insight into the geology of the mine. The yellow streaked piles near the middle of this GigaPan are composed of some of the sulfide mineral (mostly pyrite) bearing rocks associated with the ore zone. Unfortunately I couldn't find a good vantage point to shoot a GigaPan of the mine itself, so the overburden piles will have to pass as a substitute.
