A panoramic view of the majestic front range of the Rocky Mountains including:
Pikes Peak 70 miles to the southwest, Mount Evans 50 miles due west and Longs Peak shrouded by clouds 70 miles to the northwest.Taken from high ground on the east side of the park overlooking the 880 acre reservoir .
Built in 1950 the Cherry Creek reservoir prevents Cherry Creek from flooding. The creek runs through the heart of Denver where it joins the South Platte. That confluence is where the cities of Auraria and Denver originally began.
