This fin is about 10mm (0.4 in) long. The whole fish is 85mm. You can see it here: www.byteswithbite.co.uk/kilgore/org/misc/fullfish.jpg
.
This pano is the result of an evening's play with Chris's Brunel MX1 stereo 20x microscope and an adapter for my 400D. We never sussed how to get the image tightly focused and I think we might be missing a trick. I know it doesn't help that the microscope's depth of field is about 0.5mm so one is limited to taking shots of very flat objects, but still, we tried many times to get a variety of images in focus and failed. You can see another fossil from the same deposit here: www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=15036.
Lots more to learn!
