Description

The rocks fall down from the hillside onto the dry lakebed. Once they land they will start their journey across the lake's suface. The rock in this photograph was about 18 inches tall and 24 inches long. This is a very heavy rock.

I found an earlier photograph of the same rock in Google Earth Panoramio, by Ryan Hills at:

.
When I took this photograph the mystery of how these rocks move was still undiscovered. It's no longer a mystery. How do these rocks move? Find out at Wikipedia: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailing_stones Will open in a new tab or window
