Sixth in a series of pans of exposures of the Talcott basalt (early Jurassic age, ~200 million years old) in Meriden, CT
One last pan before we leave here - another good section for examining both the interior and exterior textures inside the pillows of basalt. The exteriors are often fractured and cracked as a result of the quick cooling of the crust, which is then fractured as more molten lava is pushed into the interior, expanding the size of the pillow
