Third in a series of pans of exposures of the Talcott basalt (early Jurassic age, ~200 million years old) in Meriden, CT
This is a close-up of some of the pillows showing some nice structures. We can get a good idea of the density of the interior of the pillows - either the lava has few dissolved gases, or the pressure of the overlying water is preventing those gases from exsolving and forming bubbles.
