If you had not used the default projection, and instead in Options clicked 'Mercator', the top half of the picture wouldn't be so distorted. The default Equarectangular projection doesn't work too well in Yosemite because everything is either way above you, or way below you!

Regarding SX1 versus SX10... I've heard that the SX10 actually does slightly better at stills, so video would be the only reason to go for the SX1. As far as a GigaPanning camera, it seems to work well, I've taken a few gigapans with no issues. The large zoom is why I bought it. Of course it only works with the newer larger GigaPan. In hindsight I may have gone for the SX10 and a separate video camera... with the SX1 for video you either get 1080p or 640x480... and with 1080p you can only take a 2 minute video and have it small enough to upload to youtube... I might have preferred 720p in the end.

What do you think of that Canon SX1 IS as a GigaPanning camera? I'm very pleased with my Canon SX10 IS, but am also curious whether there's any reason (besides the video) to "upgrade" to the SX1 IS.
