Predominantemente gótica, a Igreja Nossa Senhora de Lourdes em Belo Horizonte, teve sua construção concluída em 1923. Elevada em 1958, por ato do Papa Pio XII, à categoria de Basílica. À esquerda de quem entra na Basílica há uma gruta e uma imagem de Nossa Senhora de Lourdes, muito venerada pelos fiéis que acorrem de muitas partes. Doada pelo Sr. Luiz de Rezende, por intermédio da Sra. Maria Silvana Pitanga Pires chegou de Paris, à estação de ferro, no dia 24 de junho de 1900. Em 1900 foi nomeda uma comissão para a construção da capela de Lourdes num terreno que foi cedido gratuitamente pela Prefeitura e outro, anexo, adquirido particular. Depois de ter passado pela Matriz da Boa Viagem e ter ficado no Colégio da Imaculada, passou a ser venerada na Capela de Nossa senhora de Lourdes que teve sua inauguração em 11 de fevereiro de 1925 Imagem da Gruta - esculpida em gesso.
