Description

One of two pans of Horseshoe Bend, a lovely incised meander near Page, Arizona (just southeast of Glen Canyon Dam).

Erosion by the Colorado River cut down through the layers of sedimentary rock and created the deep gorge (approx. 1000 feet deep here). The river meander, though, formed by the same processes that formed the loop of the Snake River visible at Oxbow Bend (www.gigapan.org/gigapans/31360/).
Similar downcutting erosion has formed incised river meanders in other locations, such as the loops and cliffs of Bighorn Canyon (www.gigapan.org/gigapans/31393/).
We also took another pan from the same point (gigapan.org/gigapans/33155/) with a different camera. -- The two camera shots were at different enough angles that we were able to create an anaglyph pan of the scene (if you thought the gorge looked deep here....): www.gigapan.org/gigapans/49947/

Gorgeous Panoramic! Maybe just a touch too "HDR-ish" but it really shows off the geology wonderfully. Would lobe to get out there someday!

This is a really lovely panorama. Great job with the exposure - the colors are gorgeous and very natural - and your choice of subject matter! The depth to this scene makes it fun to explore.
