Leptis Magna by shelios

El entorno arqueológico de Leptis Magna es Patrimonio de la Humanidad y está situada en la costa mediterránea del norte de África en la región de Trípoli de Libia. Originalmente fundada por los fenicios en el 10th siglo AC, sobrevivió a los colonos de Esparta, convirtiéndose en una ciudad púnica y, finalmente, parte de la nueva provincia romana de África en torno al 23 antes de Cristo. Gracias al emperador Septimio Severo, uno de sus hijos y benefactores, la ciudad se convertiriría en la tercera ciudad más importante en África, rivalizando con Cartago y Alejandría.

Leptis Magna is a World Heritage site on the Mediterranean coast of North Africa in the Tripolitania region of Libya. Originally founded by the Phoenicians in the 10th Century BC, it survived the attention of Spartan colonists, became a Punic city and eventually part of the new Roman province of Africa around 23 BC. Thanks to Emperor L Septimius Severus, one of its sons and benefactors, the city become the third-most important city in Africa, rivaling Carthage and Alexandria.
