The Bridge Over the Swift River, the Quabbin Reservoir, Massachusetts, USA by James Hunt

This bridge over one of the tributaries of the Swift River was built in 1866. It was built with no mortar or cement. It still stands after all these years. Some of the bolders and rocks you see in the foreground suggest an earlier bridge that alas didn't stand so long. The Swift River flows into the Quabbin Reservoir and on to Boston to serve as drinking water for New England's largest city. The bridge now only handles rare foot traffic as it's destination, Dana, was forcibly abandoned to make way for the Quabbin. This image was taken with a Nikon D3x, using 15 shots in a multi-row panorama. This image is copyright, 2009, all rights reserved, no use with out my permission.
