Mount Chephren, Canadian Rockies by Dave Belcher

One of my larger Gigapans, the photos were taken early in the morning after a heavy snowfall a few days earlier on the upper slopes. The mountain rises more than 1600 meters above the valley floor and is more than 10,741 feet high. Composed of many layers of shale, quartzite and limestone, it stands in solitary splendor above Waterfowl Lake and the Mistaya Valley as you drive by on the Icefield Parkway.
It was originally named Pyramid Mountain, but was changed because there were other mountains in the region with the same name. Chephren was the Egyptian Pharaoh who built the second of the Great Pyramids
