A photograph of Oakland and St. Pierre's Ravine viewed from the Upper Hill, from about 1897. Photograph by R. W. Johnston. We're looking south and east.

What's present in this photo:
Schenley Farms, in the foreground
tower at the corner of S Bellefield Ave & 5th Ave?
Carnegie Library: the building at center-right with twin towers (towers since torn down).
Phipps Conservatory, to the right, beyond.
Schenley Hotel, which later became the William Pitt Union.

What's missing from this photo, because they were built later (from L to R):
Schenley High School, St. Paul's Cathedral, Mellon Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, Heinz Chapel, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Cathedral of Learning, Pittsburgh Athletic Association, Soldiers & Sailors Museum, UPMC hospitals!
