This Gigapan was shot from the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle (where the annual military tattoo is held) and faces to the south side of the city. This is known as the old town; distinct from the Georgian New Town area to the north.
Many famous landmarks can be seen, including from left to right:
Arthur's Seat (extinct volcano) / National Museum of Scotland / Greyfriar's Church and Graveyard famed for the 'Greyfriars' Bobby' story / George Heriot's School / The Mosque / Blackford Hill Observatory. There also many buildings in this shot that make up the University of Edinburgh, including the 'Dick Vet' Vetinary School.The temperature was -8 and I used two sets of batteries due to the cold in this one shot
