    In memory of Walter Slossarczyk, the 23 year-old 3rd officer and wireless operator of the Deutschland, who disappeared while rowing in the bay in 1911.

    Description:

    For the 17 men who died when the Sudur Havid, a South African fishing vessel, sank off South Georgia in 1998.

    Description:

    First a whaling ship, and then a sealing ship, she was built in Svelvik in Norway in 1921.

    Description:

    A trawler built in Beverly, England in 1906. It's original name was the Viola.

    The whaling station and the museum were very well maintained.

    Description:

    The door is open. Inside are 8 rooms of exhibits that portray the human history and the natural history of South Georgia.

    Description:

    This church was prefabricated for Grytviken in Norway in 1913, and brought to South Georgia by ship. It is open to visitors and still used occasionally for church services.

    Built in Oslo in 1928, she was used for whaling until 1956

    Description:

    Ernest Shackleton, one of the most notable heroes of Antarctic Exploration, rests in this quiet cemetery. While the other graves face east, Shackleton's faces south, toward Antarctica.
