This is a close-up view of the current USA/Mexico border fence where it ends at the edge of the Pacific Ocean south of Imperial Beach and San Diego, California. If the Bush administration's April '08 announcements of its intention to complete a new fortified border fence hold true, this scene may be greatly changed by the end of 2008. At left on the bank above the beach on the Mexican side of the border fence are the white base of a lighthouse tower and the Tijuana bullring. In contrast to the crowded Mexican beach visible between the bars, the beach on the US side is sparsely used because it is 2 miles south and across the river from Imperial Beach's far more accessible and developed beaches. For the hilltop view of the border, see this Gigapan: www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=4318
