Maiviken is a quiet, green cove on the north shore of South Georgia. It a beautiful spot with dense tussock grass and steep-sided hills all around it. The short climb to the mouth of the sealers cave ends with pleasant view of the cove and a variety of plants growing in the crevasses of the rocks. There is a wooden door and a short wall at the cave entrance.
A bonus of visiting Maiviken is the walk across Bore Valley to Grytrviken 3 km away. The walk starts just about where I was standing to take this panorama. In the last century, this was popular weekend outing for the folks in Grytviken. If you visit, don't forget your flashlight for exploring the cave. If you have time and like caves, there are a few more caves in the cove.
