This is a earthen fort from the Civil War. The camera is on one side the northern parapet looking into the center of the fort. Paths on the top of the old walls can be seen on the far left and right ends of the photo and the far wall is the slight rise visible through the middle of the photo. The fort is in the Mitchellville section of Hilton Head Island. Mitchellville was the first Freedman community set up during the Civil War. The edge of this beautiful wooded area is now threatened by the Hilton Head Airport.
