Description

This panorama shows the 2009 excavation in the city of Santarém along the Amazon River. The excavation is part of a salvage excavation project before the Cargill agricultural conglomerate builds on top of the land. Cargill currently has a huge silo plant just to the left of this image. This area is the CDP Port Site section 4A, an area just beyond the reach of the Amazon river when it floods its river banks during the rainy season. The panorama here shows 4 different excavation stations, one under the rubber tree grove. Two profile excavations at the base of a terraced mound. And one trench excavation on top of the platform mound. The top of the mound reveals evidence of bulldozing and dumping, indicating that Cargill most likely began construction beforehand.
