vol 3 issue 1 Early morning light begins to crawl down the canyon walls as campers sleep. This was captured on our first morning on the river. The water had dropped significantly overnight due to lowered release from Glen Canyon Dam, which is usually the result of less demand from the energy grid. The water dropping had left all four our boats high and dry on the beach. It was only with the brute strength of every member of our party that we were able to push the gear laden rafts down the wet sand and back into the water. As the outside world wakes up and turns on the energy hungry machines in their lives, the dam operators will open the values to increase the flow that increases supply to that increased demand for energy. Even at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, surrounded by wilderness, one can not escape the rhythm of the world of man.
Grand Canyon GigaView is a gigapixel virtual tour of the Grand Canyon created with a collection of GigaPan images taken on a private rafting trip in April 2010 and geolocated in Google Earth. Explore the journey grandcanyongigaview.tumblr.com
