- Description
-
This is an image of an ant holding a fly taken through an optical microscope magnified ~40x. It is a 24 image mosaic with some focus stacking.
This is the same ant and fly that I have imaged using a SEM last summer, you can see that image here: gigapan.org/gigapans/28295/ In the SEM image the ant and fly are magnified 400x and the image is composed of 288 photos. The ant is of the species Aphaenogaster occidentalis.
This Gigapan is part of the small world explorations project, which is working to take big pictures of small things.
