Vassa is the oldest preserved boat on display in the world. It was completed in 1620 and it first sailed in 1628. The problem was, however, that the king decided in the middle of its construction that he wanted two gun decks instead of just one so when the boat set sail it was too top-heavy and it sank in the bay within 20 minutes of leaving the port. 333 years later it was raised from the water in a 16 step system and this museum was build specifically to house it.
