Description

The much-photographed (and -filmed) Royal Crescent in Bath. Some boys decided to have a game of football in my field of view when I was mid-shot, and I had to leave before I had captured all of the horizon. A rather chocolate-box image but worth returning for another go I think.

For a different view of the crescent and many other places in Bath and Bristol, see www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=9802.

I learned something interesting the other day. Apparently the SV shots are taken by local people who are employed by GE. They give you the car and off you go whereever you want. That sort of explains how it came to be that someone drove the two miles down a dead-end single-carriage road to Sandy Haven in Pembroke.

Good discussion here ... I would be interested in knowing when all these Google Earth street view panoramas are going to be updated if ever? And if so, would one be able to go back in time to see how a view or series of views changed as a historical record. We now have that capability using GigaPans.

I think GE Street View is a cool thing (and don't agree at all with people who feel it is an invasion of privacy) but - I guess because I am so used to gigapans - the images it creates are really lame imo. I wish GE would incorporate more gigapans. Why not link them to Street View? I am sure that the first thing every gigapanner does is go out and shoot where they live from every conceivable angle so tying those in to SV seems like an obvious idea to me. Maybe I am biased because I recently found myself in SV. I got captured last summer when Chris and I were camping in Pembroke. The GE placemark is here tinyurl.com/ylefuj7 Will open in
a new tab or window and the circle is completed in www.gigapan.org/gigapans/29394/ where you can see the photo I took of the SV car.

I see that Google Earth has now created "street view" of Bath, but as far as I am concerned, this Royal Crescent GigaPan shoud be the Royal Crescent poster for all the tourists, including me, to take back home to admire for years to come.
